What are Demographics?

Demographic or demographic data refers to selected population characteristics used in marketing or opinion research.  Commonly-used demographics include race, age, income, mobility (in terms of travel time to work or number of vehicles available), educational attainment, home ownership, employment status, and much more.

A good demographic profile can, therefore, help you to find and target your ideal customers much more accurately, thereby reducing your printing costs and increasing your response rates.

What is Mosaic?

Mosaic Demographic profiles split the UK population into 61 types, or demographic groups. It took over two years to build Mosaic UK and the result is a classification system that paints a rich picture of UK consumers in terms of their lifestyles, culture and behaviour.  This provides the most accurate and comprehensive view of UK society at the start of the 21st century.

We have developed unique systems that integrate with Mosaic to enable us to identify the total numbers and percentages of each type or group in any given area, right down to individual post codes.  This allows us to offer you data and demographic profiling services either as a one-off bureau service or in conjunction with our industry leading distribution services. 

Demographic Analysis

If you have your customers post codes (we do not need addresses), we can use that information to create a demographic profile of your customer base.

This means that you can then target areas with the same or a similar demographic profile as your existing customers, thereby improving the response rates to your direct marketing campaigns.

To enable us to carry out a demographic profile, all we need is a data file (a spreadsheet would be ideal)
containing the post codes of your customers and/or potential customers.

We can then use our systems to analyse this information.  We will report back with a pie chart similar to that shown above, showing how your customer base is made up.

Demographic Profiling

If you do not have data on your existing customers but you know the characteristics that make up your ideal customer, we can use our specially developed software to help you to identify the demographic profiles that match your ideal customers.

This is done by answering a series of questions that enables us to identify the Mosaic types that most closely match your customer criteria. There are almost 200 characteristics that you can select, which means that you can be very specific in your targeting.

Once we have identified your ideal customers, we can then find out where they live (down to individual post codes) and use that information to deliver your materials direct to their door.

Demographic and Customer Mapping

Having identified your ideal customers, we can create a map showing where they live. This, in conjunction with our unique distribution systems helps us to build a precise distribution plan aimed directly at your target market.

We can also create a map showing where your existing customers live.  This can then be used to target new customers on the basis that they will probably live in the same areas.

Using our specialist distribution analysis software, we can tell exactly how many households and businesses are in each area, thereby reducing your printing costs.
